Course Description:
 
This course takes a hard look at how Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1 helps you manage emergency calls in your telephony network so that you can respond to these calls effectively and so that you can comply with local ordinances concerning the handling of emergency calls. In North America, these local ordinances are called “enhanced 911,” or E911. Other countries and locales might have similar ordinances.

Because emergency call ordinances can differ from location to location within a country, region, state, or even metropolitan area, Cisco Emergency Responder includes the flexibility you need to fit your emergency call configuration to specific local requirements. However, because ordinances do differ from location to location, and because security requirements differ from company to company, you need to do extensive planning and research before you can deploy Cisco Emergency Responder in a manner that fits your legal and security needs

Module 1: Planning for Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1

Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1 helps you manage emergency calls in your telephony network so that you can respond to these calls effectively and so that you can comply with local ordinances concerning the handling of emergency calls. In North America, these local ordinances are called “enhanced 911,” or E911. Other countries and locales might have similar ordinances.

Lesson 1: Understanding E911
This lesson explains how E911 extends the basic 911 emergency call standard in North America and describes E911 requirements and terminology. These topics describe E911 requirements and terminology. Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to meet these objectives.

Lesson 2: Understanding Cisco Emergency Responder

  • Discover the proper network hardware and software requirements
  • Describe the associated considerations for licenses Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1

This lesson describes different Cisco Emergency Responder deployment models. Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Describe general things you should consider when deploying Cisco Emergency Responder in a Cisco Unified Communications environment
  • Describe how to deploy Cisco Emergency Responder in one main site with one PSAP
  • Describe how to deploy Cisco Emergency Responder in one main site with two or more PSAPs

Module 2: Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1 Installation

This module will consider the installation process including all the necessary criteria for a clean out of the box installation as well as the possible supported upgrades. Cisco Emergency Responder is distributed on an installation DVD that contains everything that is required to install Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1, including the Cisco Unified Communications Operating System software.

This lesson defines how to install a Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1 publisher and subscriber. Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Install a Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1 publisher
  • Install a Cisco Emergency Responder 7.l subscriber

Lesson 2: Upgrading to Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1
This lesson defines how to upgrade Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1. Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Describe the use of the DMA tool in assisting with the Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1 installation process and install the DMA tool
  • Use the DMA tool to create a migration file
  • Upgrade Cisco Emergency Responder 1.3 to Cisco Emergency Responder 7.1

Lesson 1: Setting Up Phone Route Plans
Upon completing this lesson, you will know how to check and ensure that the phones that might be used to make emergency calls (typically all phones) are added and registered with Cisco Unified Communication Manager. This ability includes being able to meet these objectives:

  • Add an IP Phone to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager
  • Describe the procedure to create a phone partition
  • Create a phone Calling Search Space
  • Assign the partition and Calling Search Space to phones

Lesson 2: Setting Up Cisco Unified communications Manager to Handle Emergency Calls
Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to demonstrate the knowledge that is needed to handle emergency call. You must configure the emergency call numbers (such as 911) so that Cisco Emergency Responder intercepts them. Cisco Emergency Responder can then route the calls to the correct public safety answering point (PSAP) and transform the call as required to route the call and to enable the PSAP operator to call back the emergency caller if the initial call is disconnected. You will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Create a Cisco Emergency Responder Partition E911
  • Create a Cisco Emergency Responder Calling Search Space
  • Create the Emergency Call Route Points
  • Create the required CTI ports
  • Set up the ELIN numbers to route emergency calls and enable PSAP callbacks

  • View the audit trail for an ERL

Lesson 5: Configuring Switches for Cisco Emergency Responder
Upon completing this lesson, you will know how to assign switch ports to ERLs and identify the switches used in your network to Cisco Emergency Responder. These topics describe the switch requirements and how to identify switches to Cisco Emergency Responder.

  • List the switch requirements for Cisco Emergency Responder
  • Configure the SNMP connection
  • Define the phone tracking and switch update schedules
  • Identify the LAN switches
  • Manually run the switch port and phone update process

Lesson 6: Managing Phones
Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to describe how to assign switch ports and phones to the appropriate emergency response locations (ERLs), and how to view the history of emergency calls handled by Cisco Emergency Responder.

This Module will cover the different tools and interfaces that an administrator will need to be familiar with to administer and support the Unified Emergency Responder.

Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to Use the Administration Web Interface, the Serviceability Web Interface, and the Cisco Unified Operating System Administration Web Interface to check the Cisco Emergency Responder configuration. You will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Use the Administration Web Interface For Cisco Emergency Responder

Lesson 2: Disaster Recovery System Web Interface for Cisco Emergency Responder
Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to describe the fields on the pages of the Cisco Emergency Responder Disaster Recovery System Administration web interface. You will be able to meet these objectives:

  • View and add backup devices
  • View currently scheduled backups, to add new schedules, to enable schedules, and to disable schedules
  • Start a manual backup
  • View backup and restore history
  • View status information about the current backup
  • Restore a backup file to a server or to restore all servers in a cluster
  • View the status of restore operations

Lesson 3: Command Line Interface
Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to describe Cisco Unified Operating System (OS) commands that you can use on the Cisco Emergency Responder platform to perform basic operating system functions. The Cisco Unified OS Administration web interface also makes these functions available. Typically, you would use the command-line interface (CLI) only when a problem occurs while you are using the Cisco Unified OS Administration web interface.

  • Start a CLI session with an Emergency Responder Server

  • Describe Cisco Unified OS CLI commands and proper syntax to execute them

Lesson 4: Configuring Cisco Emergency Responder to Work with Intrado V9-1-1 Enterprise Services (Optional)
Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to configure Cisco Emergency Responder to work with Intrado V9-1-1 Enterprise Services, including migrating ERL data and setting up Cisco Emergency Responder to support off-premises users. You will be able to meet these objectives:
