Business managers and prospective managers who need to be familiar with methods of data collection and analysis
Prerequisites
Basic math and algebra
Course Aim
To define categorical data, and introduce techniques for performing linear regression analysis
Learning Objectives
Distinguish between categorical and quantitative data. Explain the major methods for analyzing categorical data. Test categorical data for independence of variables. Test categorical data for homogeneity of variables. Make inferences based on the slope of a regression line. Perform regression using Microsoft Excel. Apply and use a prediction interval formula. Distinguish between a prediction interval and a confidence interval. Explain the consequences of violating the various regression assumptions.
Topics Covered
Categorical Data - Categorical versus quantitative data - Goodness of fit - A chi-square test of independence - A chi-square test of homogeneity The Linear Regression Model - Inferences for the slope - Regression via Excel - Hands-on: Interpreting Excel Regression Intervals - A prediction interval for Y given X - A C.I. for the mean of Y given X - Violation of regression assumptions Hands-on: Performing regression via Excel
