Prerequisites
The course INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server System Administration: Managing the Instance; the course Relational Principles and the SQL Programming suite; a knowledge of the UNIX operating system is necessary
(refer to the UNIX curriculum); an understanding of client/server technologies, though not a strict prerequisite, would be useful
Course Aim
To familiarize the student with system checkpoints and the recovery process
Learning Objectives
Describe the process by which modified data is written from shared memory to disk. Define a checkpoint and describe what happens during the checkpoint procedure. Describe the OnLine fast recovery feature. Explain how mirroring works as a fault-tolerance mechanism. Describe how media recovery takes place when mirroring is used.
