CommVault Administration

Who Should Attend
IT Managers and key personnel with responsibility for management, configuration and day-to-day operation of CommVault Simpana software. Additionally, any person planning to take other CommVault Courses should first attend this course to achieve a required level of core knowledge essential to understanding advanced material presented in other CommVault courses.

Prerequisites
Attendees require an Administration level of understanding of Window 2000/2003 Server.

Description
This 3-Day Instructor-Led course is intended for personnel responsible for day-to-day administration and management of CommVault®Simpana® software. The course covers essential concepts, details, options, and best practices for user security and management, system settings, policy configuration and use, media and library management, job activity and status monitoring, and job management. Students also learn how to efficiently and effectively manage data movement (backup, archive, auxiliary copy, and restore) within a CommCell® group.

  • Configure and manage CommCell Console access with appropriate permissions for users to perform authorized tasks on specified management entities.
  • Configure Library and Media options and data paths for secure and optimum use.
  • Understand data retention configuration and rules for efficiently managing data in protected storage.
  • Create, configure, and associate policies for management of data storage, job schedules, data source (subclients) and media (Vault Tracker).
  • Understand and successfully execute/manage the backup and archive of data to protected storage.
  • Understand and successfully execute/manage restore and recovery of data both in and out of place.
  • Create a timely and effective monitoring system using event alerts and scheduled reports for successful and easier management of components and operations controlled by the CommServe software.

CommVault Advanced Storage and Media Management

Who Should Attend
IT Managers and key personnel with responsibility for management, configuration and day-to-day operation of CommVault Simpana software. Additionally, any person planning to take other CommVault Courses should first attend this course to achieve a required level of core knowledge essential to understanding advanced material presented in other CommVault courses.

Prerequisites
Attendees require an Administration level of understanding of Window 2003/2008 Server.

Description
This 2-day instructor-led course is intended for CommVault Administrators and Engineers who are responsible for designing protected storage and managing the associated media. The course covers protected storage design concerns of availability, capacity and performance. Emphasis is placed on planning for deduplicated storage and working with consolidated virtual environments. This course also covers media management concerns, tasks, and best practices for efficient use of all types of protected media. Students will learn essential design and management tools to build and manage their protected storage environment. This course is designed as a natural follow-on to the 3-day core System Administration course.

CommVault Disaster Recovery

Who Should Attend
IT and Disaster Recovery Managers responsible for planning, configuring, testing, and executing disaster recovery using CommVault Simpana software.

Prerequisites
Prior to attending this course, students should complete the CommVault System Administration Course. Students should also show familiarity with network troubleshooting procedure and most Windows 2000/2003 services such as DNS.

Description
This 2-day course is intended for experienced CommVault administrators responsible for planning and implementing disaster recovery in their organizations using the CommVault® Simpana® software suite. The course will cover general disaster recovery concepts, planning, and implementation considerations. Students will learn to identify risk factors affecting all CommCell components and suggested response levels appropriate for various levels of disaster. Students will also learn how to integrate knowledge acquired from other Training Classes and Resources to effectively recover all necessary CommCell components in the event of common data center disruptions.

Who Should Attend
IT Managers and advanced IT personnel responsible for the planning deployment and support of CommVault Simpana Software.

Prerequisites
Attendees must have attended the CommVault Administration course.

Description
This 2-Day Instructor-Led course is intended for key personnel responsible for the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of CommVault® Simpana® software. The course starts by enabling the student to understand architectural considerations, resource planning requirements, and installation options for deploying CommVault Software. Students are then given in-depth understanding of the internal process steps for essential job operations. Students will learn performance enhancement techniques, troubleshooting tools and methodology that can help identify causes and solutions to the more common problems encountered by customers.

Benefits
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to perform the following key tasks:

  • Identify resource and installation requirements to successfully deploy and configure CommVault software components.
  • Install and configure Media Agent and Client Agent software for applications or file systems on Windows, UNIX, or Netware hosts.
  • Locate data movement performance bottlenecks and take appropriate actions available to maximize speed or throughput of data to or from a Media Agent/Library data path.
  • Use available CommVault diagnostic tools and methodology to identify probable cause of problems and take appropriate action to resolve these problems.
