This Learning Path introduces the UNIX operating system. It describes the history of UNIX
and the reasons for the continued popularity of UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems. It also provides an overview
of the architecture of UNIX systems and introduces the user interfaces. The path also provides learners with the
skills required to customize their UNIX working environment and to use the operating system productively. It also
looks at the different shells available on UNIX systems. It explains the features of the Korn shell, and equips
the learner with the skills necessary to write both simple and complex shell scripts, as well as to debug their
