The Java initiative was designed to provide a ready supply of trained developers for enterprise
applications and the rapidly expanding e-commerce market, a multi-vendor JavaTM technology training and certification
initiative has been established. The initiative was incorporated in 1999 by leading information technology companies:
BEA Systems, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, and Sybase.
The intent of the Initiative is to promote common standards for skill validation of developers using the Java platform,
at levels ranging from programmers using the core Java programming language to developers of enterprise applications.
A common skills roadmap provides solid guidelines for training on the Java platform. To reduce redundancies in
testing, the jCert program has been defined to include common exams recognized by all participating companies as
well as including vendor-specific exams meeting the jCert specification. |
